Of the Lord’s Mercies is a sonic journey through the arc of what Western Christendom calls the Paschal Cycle, encompassing the seasons of Lent, including Holy Week, and Easter, culminating on Pentecost: The 50th Day of Easter. This disc combines some of The Compline Choir’s best-loved seasonal music with music newly composed, and features new recordings of music composed by the choir’s founder and beloved first director, Peter R. I Will Meditate (2013)
I Will Meditate contains a complete recording of the office of Compline, as sung at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, Seattle. Encompassing the first 11 tracks of this CD, the Compline service includes premiere recordings of Richard Proulx’s I Will Meditate and his large scale anthem In Praise of Music, commissioned for the Compline Choir’s 50th anniversary celebration. Rounding out the recording are eight tracks of additional Psalm settings by the choir’s founder Peter R. Hallock. [more…]
Night Music (2001)
Night Music consists entirely of compositions written over the history of the Compline Choir by founding director, Peter Hallock. The compact disc takes its name from a work written for the choir based on non-sacred texts, and inspired by Bunraku—Japanese puppet theatre. Here the music unfolds in three “dreams,” accompanied by percussion, shakuhachi, harp, and narrator. Surrounding this work are nine anthems for various seasons of the liturgical year; many are richly accompanied, such as The Dawning and Jubilemus Omnes, compositions for choir and five celli. [more…]

Feathers of Green Gold (1994)
Under the direction of Peter Hallock, the Compline Choir set off a liturgical revolution in 1956 with their singing of the ancient Office of Compline. Every Sunday night since 1956, Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, Seattle, is packed with people to hear the half-hour service in a darkened church. This recording of the service is followed by ten Psalms for men’s choir by Peter Hallock. Mysterious, beautiful, and timeless, this choir’s Compline service has become the catalyst for a worldwide revival of this ancient liturgy. [more…]
