Peter Hallock invited twelve men from the University of Washington to study and sing plainchant together; this study group became known by the office it regularly sang—Compline.
Seven years ago…
Jason Anderson invited Rebekah Gilmore to form a women’s expression of the Compline Choir to sing the office while the men were on pilgrimage to England.
Together, we are one choir with two distinct expressions, and a shared love of the office we pray and chant—Compline—and an affection for the splendid acoustic and supportive, loving community at Saint Mark’s Cathedral.
We invite our friends and supporters to join us for the celebration of the Compline Choir’s 70th and 7th anniversaries this summer on August 15 and 16.
Festival Banquet
Saturday, August 15, 6:30-8:30 PM
Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Bloedel Hall, 1245 10th Ave E, Seattle.
Enjoy a festive, three-course Mediterranean inspired banquet with food and non-alcoholic beverages, catered by Pecado Bueno; a beer and wine cash bar will be available. Hear an update on the Living Stones II: Building A Sound Future capital campaign and enjoy the sounds of a vocal ensemble comprised of members from the Compline Choir.
Cost: $50 / $100 for VIP. VIPs will receive preferred seating and be first in line for the meal.
Compline in Worship
Sunday, August 16
Enjoy a full day of music beginning with morning worship services at Saint Mark’s Cathedral, 1245 10th Ave E, Seattle.
- Compline Choir women will sing at the 9 AM service
- Compline Choir men will sing at the 11 AM service
Then, at 9:30 PM…
The culminating event of the weekend is a special women’s and men’s combined Compline service, featuring music by Elaine Hagenberg, Kevin Siegfried, Jessica French, and Peter Hallock, including Hallock’s monumental anthem Phoenix, with Naomi Kato, harp, and Page Smith, cello. Jason Anderson and Rebekah Gilmore direct. Compline is followed with Organ by Night, featuring Michael Kleinschmidt on the Flentrop organ.
Church services are free of charge, though you will be invited to make an offering in support of Saint Mark’s Cathedral.
